Academic All-Americans!

This is a fun time of year when post-season awards are announced and we get to find out how those outside of our program regard our players.  Adria Graham and Stephanie Fazenbaker just became only the 2nd and 3rd FSU Women's Soccer players to be named to the CoSida Academic All-America team. Both are forwards who led our team and the conference in Goals and Assists and both are 4.0 students with career aspirations in the medical professions.  As a junior and 2-time Conference Player of the Year, Adria made the 1st Team while Stephanie was named to the 3rd team as one of only 2 sophomores honored in the Nation.

NCAA Tournament

Katie Smith makes a save Saturday Night
We played the tough and talented #5 ranked team from Lynchburg in the NCAA Tournament this weekend.  Although we lost the game 1-0, we had good stretches of momentum in the game and created some quality chances to score.  Our Seniors showed terrific leadership as we threw everything we had at Lynchburg in the final 10 minutes and created some real drama as the clock counted down.   Katie Smith was terrific in goal and our defense on 2 very athletic forwards was awesome all night.  We conclude our year with a 14-4-1 record and a conference championship.  All of our players should be very proud of a terrific 2012 season...

CAC Champions

We hit the post twice and had a great chance to end the game in overtime but it was Katie Smith who was our hero today, saving 2 PK's in the Shootout to secure our first CAC Championship since entering the Conference in 2010.  We played a terrific 0-0 draw at Salisbury but will now be headed to the NCAA Tournament.  The selection show will be on Monday afternoon and will be announced here:

Playing for A Championship!

We played well at home tonight in our conference semifinal scoring 3 times in the opening 30 minutes to defeat York 3-0.  We will now play for the CAC Championship at Salisbury this Saturday at 1:00pm.  Adria Graham scored twice and Brooke Longo added another in the first half.  Stephanie Fazenbaker had another great assist and our defending was terrific. A rematch with Salisbury awaits this weekend with the winner headed to the NCAA Tournament!

Terrific Finish to Conference Play

On Friday night, we secured a bye and home game in our conference tournament and will host a CAC Semifinal at FSU on Tuesday, October 30th against the winner of York/Wesley.  We won our 12th game of 2012 on an unusual night that featured trains, planes, monuments, a rainbow, a downpour, a lightning delay, and fortunately lots of FSU goals as 7 different players scored in our final conference game at Marymount. Steph Fazenbaker had an amazing night assisting 4 goals in a row before scoring the 5th herself.  If you look really closely at the photo below, you'll see the Washington Monument across the Potomac from the park where we played in Arlington, Virginia.  We are playing very well at the right time of year and look forward to extending our season as long as possible into November.

Big Conference Win at Home

It was our center mids who delivered tonight as we jumped over York in the CAC standings with a 2-1 home win. Courtney Mack pushed in the ball after a great run by Stephanie Fazenbaker then Brooke Longo found the upper 90 from 30 yards for the game winner. We have earned at least one home game in the CAC Tournament and finish conference play on Friday at Marymount in Arlington VA.
The Friday game is at 7pm and will be played at:

Big Senior Day Win!

Our Seniors, and our entire team, performed well at home for our Senior Day this year as we climbed the conference standings with a 6-0 win over Wesley.  We are now 10-3-1 and have a huge CAC contest on Wednesday as we host York at 6pm in a game that will largely determine our place in the final conference standings and our post-season tournament.
