Home Conference Win

Thank you to all our parents for visiting FSU for our game today!  On our soccer parents weekend, we had a great crowd and got an important result defeating a conference rival in St. Mary's 3-2.   We started slowly but got 2 terrific goals from Adria Graham late to secure the 3 points and begin our climb up the conference standings.   We play at home on Wednesday before a big show down with Salisbury on Maryland's Eastern Shore on Saturday.   The winner of that game will be in a preferred position to claim a high seed and home-field advantage in the CAC tournament.

Overtime Stunner...

A talented and athletic team from Gettysburg College visited FSU tonight for one of our most competitive games of the year.  We were unfortunately to allow an own-goal very early in the game but scored a quality equalizer before halftime.  Stephanie Fazenbaker ran out of midfield and played a terrific pass to Adria Graham as she cut across the defense and finished nicely past the keeper.  It was the kind of connection between these players that has been fun for Frostburg fans to watch this season.  We had several quality chances to claim the win, including a terrific shot off the crossbar but in overtime, a Gettysburg player ran onto a loose ball and crushed a shot into the upper right corner of the goal from about 20 yards.  It was a stunning end to a very good game that we had to fight our way back into after the early miscue.  Our team showed the kind of spirit and composure tonight that will prove invaluable in our upcoming conference games.

Tough Away Result

We were outscored by an opponent on Friday night in a good display of how competitive college soccer is in our area.  An athletic physical team playing a very direct style did not suit us and we were down 1-0 before we could really adjust.  Our team responded very well in the 2nd half with an early spell of possession and created a few good chances but we could not get the equalizer.  Of course, we expect a positive response from our team this week and will learn from this experience. The big games will just keep coming as we host another regionally ranked team on Wednesday before hosting a big conference game next Saturday at 2pm.

Stadium Progress

Phase 1 of our stadium renovation is nearly completed and should be ready for our home football game this weekend.  This photo from today shows the progress.  Nice red and black accents and back rests were a surprise to most.  Phase 2, to start this winter, will add 7 more rows of seats and completely replace the press box.

Big Home Win

6 different players scored tonight to start our week with a rare Monday night game.  4 players scored twice and each came from a different class as Senior Dorie Gedridge, Junior Adria Graham, Sophomore Steph Fazenbaker, and Freshman Erin Worthman each scored a double.  Adria was named the FSU Athlete of the Week for a 2nd time this year and we remain ranked #5 in the NSCAA South Atlantic Region.   We've got 3 days to prepare for a big game on Friday night in Owings Mills, Maryland at 7pm.    Directions are here

Tough Start to CAC Play

We drew at Mary Washington this weekend 1-1 to open conference play.  Not the result we wanted after being up a goal and a sign of how tough the CAC is going to be this year.  Overall, we did some very good things in the game but it's a long season and we have plenty to improve on week to week before the post-season games come in November.  First year player Erin Worthman scored a dramatic goal seen on our YouTube Channel linked below.  We will now have lots of video clips and highlights in HD so you can 'change quality' to 1080 and view them full screen.

New Stadium and Media Guide

Our new stadium seating is taking shape and will be ready for our home game next weekend. The photo here from today shows the progress to date.  In the winter, construction will begin on a new press box to include team rooms and a VIP level that will join with the stadium seats.    Our 2012 Media Guide is now ready on-line at the link in the right column of this page.

Big Win in Home Opener!

In spite of the rapid renovation underway in our home stadium this week, we played very well on Wednesday night to defeat Shenandoah in front of a good home crowd.  We had good control of the match early on and Adria Graham scored all 3 goals as we've start our season 5-0.  A well deserved shut-out from our goalkeeper and back line.  A huge road game to open conference play awaits us this weekend at Mary Washington in Fredericksburg, VA.  Game time is 1pm on Saturday.

Tough Win at the CMU Tournament

We earned a hard fought 2-1 win over Wittenberg of Ohio today in Pittsburgh at the Carnegie Mellon Tournament.  Wittenberg really stretched our defense as much as any team we've faced this year but our back line held on and we earned a good win.  Adria Graham assisted Stephanie Fazenbaker nicely in the 2nd half for the game winner after Stephanie put us up in the 1st half with the games first goal. It was a great team effort and we're learning more about our team every week and developing our mental toughness against different kinds of challenges with each game.  4 wins in 4 games to start the season - headed in the right direction...

A Great Start to our Pittsburgh Visit

Our visit to Pittsburgh has started very well both off and on the field.  The view from the wonderful waterfront Sheraton when we arrived last night was awesome.  On the pitch, we took care of business today defeating our former conference rivals Penn St.-Behrend 4-1.  A great start to the game was canceled out by an early equalizer from Behrend but we slowly gained control of the game and early in the second half got our reward.  Adria Graham had a terrific 3-goal, 1 assist performance and we got an awesome physical effort from our center mids - Courtney Mack, Brooke Longo, and Kelsey Wentworth. Our back line was again very solid in allowing only 2 shots in the match.

Another good away win

Another strong road performance has given us terrific momentum to start the season.  You can see the confidence building in our young team with each game.  This week Adria Graham was the FSU Athlete of the Week and the FSU team earned the #8 place in the NSCAA South Atlantic Regional Poll.  A highly competitive tournament in Pittsburgh awaits this weekend.

A Great Start!

What a terrific start to the season!  2 goals in each half and a shutout as we started our 2012 campaign with a 4-0 win at Catholic in D.C.  The Nation's Capital was toasty this weekend as temperatures hovered over 90 degrees during the game.  Our overall fitness and the quality depth of our roster both helped us maintain control of the match.  Adria Graham started her Junior season right where she left off in 2011- with a hat trick, and Katie Smith begins her career as our starter in the goal with a shutout performance.
