FSU All-Sports Awards

It was a great night to celebrate FSU Athletics and the wonderful careers of our Senior Class at the FSU All-Sports Awards Banquet.  We had a great year in women's soccer and one of our Seniors, Melanie Bell, was named the FSU Female Strength & Conditioning Athlete of the Year!   She was also a Co-Sida Academic All-American.

Relay for Life and Alumni Visit

A great weekend for FSUWS!  We were the top fundraising group for our FSU Relay for Life Cancer Fundraiser again this year.   We've raised over $15,000 for the American Cancer Society over 10 years through our campus Relay.
On Saturday, we had a great turnout for our annual Alumni Game.  It was terrific to see so many former players, some who have not been here for 10 years or more.  It's always a great way to finish our Spring season and semester.

Spring Time!?

We've had a great start to our Spring season in spite of the weather not really cooperating.  We had some late season snow fall and an occasional gale force wind!  But our players are focused on getting better every day whether we are on the turf, in the gym, or in the strength and fitness rooms!
First Day of Spring Season!
Always a beautiful day for soccer!

More Academic Awards!

The ECAC recognizes Scholar Athletes by naming an "Academic Honor Roll".  There are 2 standards - returning student-athletes need to achieve a minimum 3.2 GPA in the Fall semester.  Those with a 3.6 or better are named to the "President's Honor Roll"
FSUWS had a remarkable 14 players selected to the Fall 2017 ECAC Honor Roll with 8 of those players earning 4.0s!  Congratulations!

Here's the story and our listing (only returning players were eligible):

Pura Vida from Costa Rica!

We just returned from a wonderful week long team tour of Costa Rica.  It's the third trip we've taken as a program with Costa Rica Soccer Tours in the past 10 years.  We went 1-1-1 in 3 games on the trip and scored goals in all 3 matches.  Most importantly, we grew closer as a team, explored a wonderful Central American culture, and have jump-started our 2018 season in the most unique way possible.   We'll post lots of pictures here soon but below are a few of our favorites.

Super Student-Athletes!

We confirmed today that we achieved our most important team goal for the year. Our players reconfirm their commitment to academic achievement every semester by continuing the high standard we've set here in FSU Women's Soccer.
Our team achieved a 3.49 Team GPA for the Fall semester with 11 players earning a 4.0 GPA! The 11 is likely a record high number. Adding in the 4 additional players that earned only 1 "B" grade and that means over half our team, 15 players, earned 60 "A" grades in 64 total classes this Fall.

These 11 players earned perfect 4.0s this semester:
Katie Broadhurst, Jenny Bullers, Danielle Ferris, Sienna Grau, Rylee Learn, Alyssa Malanik, Rebecca Phillip, Emily Rhinaman, Kelly Richards, Gwen Schemm, and Hailey Turney.

Congratulations and have a wonderful holiday!

Great Season!

The first day after the season ends is always a tough day.  What am I going to do this afternoon?   Haven't asked that question in awhile.   Our team was terrific this year and our growth throughout the season was evident and fun to watch.  We'll reflect on that season and celebrate our Senior Class at our team banquet on Sunday, Dec. 10th at 4pm in the Lyric Theatre.  Our Seniors provided our team an excellent example and terrific leadership this season.   They will be missed.

The 'Championship' Season

The final part of any season is often the most exciting.  We've been in position to compete for conference championships over many years here at FSU and it never seems any less thrilling and exciting for the players and fans.  Of course, your post-season only lasts as long as you can win games so there's pressure and intensity and lots of factors that come into play.   This year our team has clearly peaked at the right time and has played very good soccer for the last few weeks.  Shutting out opponents in 5 straight games is a testament to our experienced back line and the energy and defensive commitment all our players have made.  This weekend, we face the biggest test of our season against the best team in our Conference Final and our players are ready for the challenge.
