Alumni Game and Relay

This is a wonderful and meaningful weekend to finish our Spring season here at FSU!   On Friday night our team was once again the top fundraising team at FSU, adding nearly $3,000 to the FSU Relay for Life total for the signature American Cancer Society fundraising event.   On Saturday, perhaps our best collection of FSUWS graduates visited Bobcat stadium for our annual Alumni Game and weekend. There was some debate on the goal count with the Alumni team claiming a 1-0 victory while the current team insists it was a 1-1 draw!   Can't wait for next year's game.

Post-Season Honors

Jesse Dunagan usually plays every field position at some point throughout a season, sometimes even within one game, but she took advantage of her minutes as a forward this year and led our team in scoring.  In fact, she scored the first and last goals of our season and had a hat-trick against S. Virginia.   She was recognized for her efforts by being named to the All-CAC 2nd team.  Her first all-conference honor.

Congrats JD!

Playoff Time!

We have a great tradition here at FSU of hosting and playing in important post-season games.  This year we get to host our Conference Tournament Quarterfinal on Saturday at 5:00pm in Bobcat Stadium on Homecoming weekend.
The game will be streamed live as usual but families and alumnae in attendance are welcome to watch from our Stadium Hospitality Suite.

Winning a big game against a cross-state rival feels pretty good.  Our players worked very hard on Saturday and got 2 goals to open conference play in a big game at Salisbury.  They have a good team and coach and so it's especially gratifying when our players produce a good gritty performance and can get a result in an important rivalry game.  Every year, our team has to learn good competitive habits that put us in position to outscore our opponents and there was good evidence of that this week.
Here's our 2018 crew!

Just Rewards

Competitive sports and soccer in particular, can be cruel at times.  I'm not sure there's a team sport quite like soccer where one team can do so many things well in a game and still get outscored.   A sport where the performance of the teams is more inconsistent with the final score of the game.   So, an obvious challenge for players and coaches is to realize that playing well, putting in a good performance, doesn't mean you'll always win.  The tougher realization is that without that consistent good level of performance, you know your chances of winning decline.  So, good competitive teams have to be mentally tough and realize that eventually, throughout a given season, you're good preparation and energy and commitment and skill will eventually put you in a position to win some games.  You hope the right number of games and at the right time of year.
Our success at Gettysburg this week does feel like it was truly earned.  Our players have shown tremendous determination and spirit through an early season that has delivered us some difficult score lines.  Great timing for our team as we prepare for conference play to begin this weekend.
