A Big W!

Competitive college soccer forces you to experience all kinds of emotions.   We've experienced a lot already this year but our roller coaster ride took a good turn this weekend.  We played the highest ranked team and pre-season favorite to open conference play and got a great 1-0 result at CNU.  It was great for lots of reasons: we scored a quality goal, defended bravely, and got great performances from many important players.  It was the kind of quality result we were due to have but cannot take for granted. More big games and quality opponents await next week.  Here we go!

Soccer Karma?

Soccer Karma seemed to take a bite out of us on Friday night when we surrendered a game-tying goal in the final seconds of a home game after a questionable out of bounds call.  It was a tough moment but one we had to bounce back from in 48 hours as we traveled to Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh to play a top-10 team that was undefeated and had not allowed a goal yet this season.  We did a lot of chasing in the first half Sunday before getting into the game with a fantastic counter attack goal (see our YouTube Channel).  We could not complete the comeback but proved that we can be a great 2nd-half team and can play with some of the best teams in the country.  We have a run of tough away games coming up including our first CAC contest next weekend but are learning and growing as a team every week.

Solid Win at Home

A great start to the game tonight led to 3 goals on the board by halftime and a solid home win on a beautiful fall night for soccer.  We played every healthy player and controlled much of the game tonight as we got goals from 4 different players and 3 of our forwards.   A big weekend awaits as we host Stevenson on Friday night before traveling Sunday to Nationally Ranked Carnegie Mellon in Pittsburgh.

Getting Back on Track

Just like every team in the nation at this point in the season, we are making adjustments and are learning week to week how to improve our team and get the results we expect.  In an unusual reschedule to Friday night for weather, we traveled to Shenandoah and got a great away result.  Leah Yurko scored early and Brooke Longo scored a great 2nd half goal for a 2-1 win.  We defended very well and earned the weekend off before a home game Tuesday.

Learning Lessons

We got a lesson in playing national level d3 soccer on Sunday at #5 Johns Hopkins.  After scoring to make it a 1-goal game at halftime. Hopkins' pace and quality showed and they ran away with the result.  Obviously, we've learned a lot about our team and what we need to do to raise our game in the coming weeks and look forward to getting back after it on Tuesday at practice.   Our team will look to bounce back as we host a night game on Wednesday at 7pm.

Great Start to the Season!

A Senior scoring a hat-trick and a first-year player scoring 2 equals a great start to the regular season.  We controlled the game from start to finish on our way to a 5-0 win in our home-opener vs St. Vincent.   Every healthy player got field time and all 3 of our keepers combined for the shutout.  A big weekend in Baltimore awaits....
