First Goal of 2013!

A great first week of training ended with a 3-way scrimmage tonight in the FSU Stadium.  Our YouTube channel on the right shows our first goal of the 2013 season.  We scored a goal in each of the 2 games and have completed the first chapter of our 2013 season.  A well-deserved day off for some teambuilding tomorrow at Deep Creek Lake!

The team moved in on Friday and began fitness testing and field sessions on Saturday.  Tonight, the team played another full-sided intersquad game in preparation for our opening preseason scrimmage on Friday night at 7pm.

Highlights include our opening game at night in the MD Soccerplex Stadium on Aug. 30, Parents Weekend on Sept. 21, and Senior Day on Oct. 19th.
Our Stadium renovation is progressing nicely and will be a terrific place to watch a game in the Fall.

Did we have a great year...Yes!

I never know if we've really had a great year until our Spring grades are posted.  The team earned a 3.37 GPA in the Spring, meaning we'll easily earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 7th straight year.
3 players earned perfect 4.0 GPAs with 5 more getting only 1 "B" for the semester. Overall, 14 of our 24 players earned a 3.5 or better GPA this Spring - that's a terrific number which means the majority of our team is on course to graduate with Honors.  Our players have earned a great summer break! 

Brooke Longo Scores in Debut!

Rising Sophomore Brooke Longo made her first appearance in the WPSL semi-pro league playing for Torino-USA last week. ACF Torino-USA is a Maryland based affiliate with the Italian Club Torino FC.   Brooke scored just 9 minutes into her first game with Torino on May 25th in Williamsburg, VA.   The schedule, league, and team websites are linked here.

Graduation Day!

A great day to Graduate!  Our defensive MVP, Erin Proctor, shown here on Saturday, will proceed almost directly to graduate school at the University of Virginia next month.  Congratulations to her and to Dorie Gedridge, who will complete her teaching internship in the Fall, and Liz Seligman, who will become our Graduate Assistant Coach beginning this coming season.

FSU All-Sports Banquet

The women's soccer team was recognized for its outstanding season on Monday night at the FSU All-Sports Awards Dinner.  Junior Adria Graham was named FSU Female Athlete of the Year for the 2nd consecutive year and Senior Erin Proctor was honored as our Team/Defensive MVP.  Both Adria and Stephanie Fazenbaker were also honored as CoSida Scholar All-Americans.

Alumni Game

What a Beautiful Day for Soccer in the FSU Stadium!  Our alumni gathered to challenge the current undergrads on Saturday in our annual alumni game and although the current FSU team prevailed, the alumni group was terrific.  3 Former Conference Players of the Year and 8 All-Conference players represented the alumni team in a very competitive contest on a gorgeous Spring day in Frostburg.

Relay for LIfe

We've raised over $4,000 for the American Cancer Society this year, shattering our previous records and raising more than any single student group at FSU.   Campus-wide, Frostburg will donate over $50,000 to the ACS as part of our Relay for Life event on campus this year.  Pictured below are team members gathering for our Relay event on Friday night and even Coach Lou was willing to don a TuTu in our efforts to fight cancer.

New Stadium Underway!

Construction of Phase 2 of our Stadium Renovation is now underway. The current press box is being taken down this week and site work has begun with the hope of completion by September.

Spring Season!

Spring is finally arriving to the region and we've had a great start to our Spring season. Everyone has worked hard over the winter and it shows in the training and games. We'll play at home on 2 occasions this Spring and hope you'll get a chance to visit.
