What a year we had here at FSU! Here are some highlights from 2011:

Posted a CAC Best 3.52 Team GPA (from 2010-11) winning our 4^th Consecutive NSCAA Team Academic Award
Shutout 14 opponents allowing only 11 goals (2nd fewest in FSU History and 15th best in the Nation)
Appeared in our 11th Consecutive Post-Season Tournament (NCAA or ECAC)
Won the ECAC South Region Championship outscoring our opponents 10-2 in the tournament
Were regionally ranked in the NSCAA South Atlantic Poll for 8 weeks (as high as #7)
FSU players led the CAC in: Goals, Points, Save %, Goals Against Avg. and 5 other categories
Lost only 2 games, fewest in our history, and never trailed by more than 1 goal in any match
Senior Goalkeeper Michelle Buckmaster finished the season ranked 31st in the Nation in GAA, 16th in Save %, and now holds FSU records for Season and Career GAA
Placed 5 players on All-Conference Teams including the CAC Player of the Year, Sophomore Forward, Adria Graham
Had 2 players selected to NSCAA All-Region Teams and recognized as ECAC All-Stars (Adria Graham and Erin Proctor)
Earned the NSCAA Team Ethics Silver Award for our 4th straight year (only 2 yellow cards)
Raised nearly $1200 for the American Cancer Society through the Relay for Life event in the FSU Stadium and donated 2 complete Thanksgiving dinner baskets to the Allegany County Food Bank

The NSCAA has published the winners of the 2011 Team Academic Award and the FSU Women's Soccer Team has been honored for the 4th straight year!
The team GPA of 3.52 for the 2010-2011 academic year is a best-ever for the program and the highest GPA in the Capital Conference and the State of Maryland among all men's and women's college soccer teams. The FSU team GPA also ranks in the top 40 of the 571 women's college teams that earned the award this year in all NCAA Divisions.

Our 2011 Season ended Sunday with a big home win to capture the 2011 ECAC South Championship! Liz Seligman, our all-conference right back, hit a wonder goal from 30 yards after running with the ball for 60. [Check our YouTube channel on the right of this page] Stevenson is a very good team that pressured us throughout the game but both our back line defending and goalkeeping were terrific.
It was our 12th shutout as we finished the year with a 17-2-2 record.

We had a terrific burst of offense against Altoona and won 5-1 today in the ECAC Semifinals here at FSU. As a result, we'll host the ECAC South Region Final at Noon on Sunday against our conference rivals from Stevenson. It's the 3rd time in 4 years, we've hosted the ECAC Final and hope to prevail at home here in 2011.

Adria Graham scored twice and Steph Fazenbaker and Dorie Gedridge each added a goal in a 4-1 home win over Grove City in our ECAC first round game on Wednesday here at FSU. The victory means as the #1 seed, we will host the Semifinals and Final this weekend. Here's the schedule of games in our Bobcat Stadium:

On Wednesday at 6pm, FSU will host Grove City in the ECAC South Region Tournament. It's the 3rd time in 4 years that FSU has earned the #1 seed in the ECAC Tournament and hosted post-season games here at Bobcat Stadium. Tough start to the postseason

We are still a bit stunned by having a game decided after 18 penalty kick attempts. Unfortunately, our opponents made 1 more than we did and advance now to our conference semifinal this week. We are healing fast and will begin to train this week in anticipation of a post-season tournament bid. Announcements will be made on November 7th at these relavent sites for the NCAA and ECAC tournaments.

What a difference a day makes

Our snow crews had our field cleared within hours of the snow ending on Saturday night.

Sunday morning, our men's coaching staff put the finishing touches on the stadium cleanup and the hot sun provided by mother nature did the rest.

For the first time in many years, we've had a significant snow fall in October that stretched from Virginia to Maine. A few of our players visited the FSU stadium today during the storm. Our snow crews are awesome and we do expect to play tomorrow! Our game is scheduled for 4pm now instead of 2.

It's Playoff Time!

We've concluded our regular season with a 14-2-1 record after Senior Jessica Kraemer smashed in a golden goal in overtime at Wesley on Saturday in Dover, Delaware. After a play between Cassie Donahue and Adria Graham was broken up by a defender, Kraemer stepped into the loose ball and found the upper corner from about 20 yards out for the games decisive moment.
With our 2 wins this week, we have secured the #3 seed in our conference tournament. We'll host a Quarterfinal game this weekend here at FSU, likely on Sunday at 2pm, but our opponent will not be determined until Wednesday. Either St. Mary's or Mary Washington will travel to Frostburg to determine who moves on to the CAC semifinal on Wednesday. The CAC has published a preliminary bracket that is linked here:

Big Conference Win!

Our returning players were very happy to recall our regular season game with York last year as we made our first trip to the York campus in CAC play. After a terrific header by Abbie Aposporos was clipped in by Adria Graham, York evened the score with a counter-attack goal mid-way through the 2nd half. Dorie Gedridge came up big in the final minutes however as she sprinted down the right flank and hit a curling shot up and over the head of the YCP keeper for the game winner.
We have now secured ourselves at least one home game in the CAC Tournament and could still finish anywhere from 1st to 4th place with one big conference weekend of games to be played. After our Saturday game at Wesley, we'll know when we'll host that CAC playoff game.

The "Business End of the Season"

One of my favorite ways of describing this crucial time of the year. We travel to York on Wednesday for a huge game at 3:30 that will largely determine our seeding in the CAC Tournament. On Saturday we'll visit Dover, DE to play Wesley to conclude our regular season schedule. We'll then know for sure this weekend where and when we'll then begin the Conference tournament the following week.

This Saturday at 1:00pm in our stadium at FSU, we'll play one of our biggest games of the year against Salisbury with first place in the CAC standings on the line. We'll also be celebrating the careers of our 8 Senior soccer players pictured above. The game is a campus "black out" game with prizes for students wearing black at the game and our campus TV Station will be taping and then broadcasting the game on FSU TV3. Find a Way to Win!

Perhaps on overplayed cliche' but it turns out to be a theme for our season in 2011. This time it was an overtime Penalty Kick that made the difference for us as we defeated McDaniel on a beautiful day in Westminster, MD by the narrowist of margins. Cassie Donahue converted the PK after Steph Fazenbaker was cut down in the box about 7 minutes into the first overtime on Saturday. It was our 2nd overtime win of the season and puts us on a 7-game unbeaten streak and lifts our overall record to 11-1-1. Our other game this week was a 4-0 home win over Hood on Wednesday. 3 of those goals are on our YouTube page including a terrific goal finished by Steph Fazenbaker after 7 different FSU players are involved in a passing sequence that puts Dorie Gedridge down the right flank to send a hard serve across the box to be finished with a 1-timer.
This week we travel to Arlington, VA to play Marymount on Wednesday night at 7:30 before our Senior Day game on Saturday against Salisbury at 1pm.

2 Huge Road Wins!

What is becoming a remarkable season for us continued this week as we won 2 games on the road against 2 very good teams in 2 very different ways. At Gettysburg, we defended like mad after a slow start and got a great counter attack goal from Adria Graham in the 2nd half that stood up to withering pressure in the final 15 minutes from both the Bullets and the driving rain. On Saturday at St. Mary's in Southern Maryland, our slow start cost us dearly as we went down 2-0 at the intermission. In the 2nd half, we took control of the game and got 2 terrific individual efforts from Adria Graham who chipped the onrushing keeper for her 1st goal then passed it by her for goal #2 after tackling the ball away from a St. Mary's defender. With the game tied 2-2, Cassie Donahue's wait to score this year ended as she lobbed a perfect shot over the keeper for the game winning goal then provided some insurance heading home a Liz Seligman corner. The 4-goal comeback was one of our finest 2nd half efforts of the year and proved how much our team has matured in a short time this season.

Saves and Near Misses!

We hope a classic 0-0 tie with Stevenson on Saturday here at FSU is not the last time we play the Mustangs before they depart our conference next year. The game saw chances in front of both goals but good goalkeeping and alert defending kept the game scoreless. Our YouTube channel to the right has a clip of our best chance to score and a couple saves from our keeper Michelle Buckmaster. We have allowed only 3 goals in 9 games this season and Buckmaster was named the FSU Athlete of the Week as she earned us 2 shutouts and now has a .34 Goals Against Average on the year. We've had a fantastic defensive record against some very good teams but the big games keep coming this week as we play on the road against a good Gettysburg team before visiting St. Mary's in Southern Maryland on the weekend.

A Great Start to Conference Play

A massive home win on Sunday in our first CAC game against Mary Washington gives us a great start in the conference race. We had to recover from a tough home loss to a good Carnegie Mellon team on Thursday and the players certainly responded. Erin Proctor kept a deep corner alive in the box and Chelsea Paskowski headed home the game winner. Our defense held up in the end for another hard-earned shut out on the year.

FSU sophomore Adria Graham was named both the FSU and Capital Athletic Conference Player of the Week! She scored 4 times last week including both goals in a 2-1 win over Capital on Saturday. Her first goal on Saturday, scored in the opening minute of the game, is shown on our YouTube Channel on the right of this page. The Hard Work Does Pay Off

Scheduling 3 games in 4 days is not something we would typically try to do but when we had an opportunity to host a tournament here at FSU, we took it. Our players proved this week that their hard work in preseason and on strength and conditioning over the last year has really paid off. We were able to defeat 2 conference champions from last year and a good Ohio team in Capital to remain undefeated. We've only allowed 2 goals going 5-0 to start our season and earned a regional ranking in the latest NSCAA Poll. We've won each of our games in a different way and our key players are in good form. There is a very good chemistry building in our team but every week presents a new challenge. A talented Carnegie Mellon side will visit us on Thursday before we begin our conference schedule hosting Mary Washington on Sunday.

A Great Opening Weekend

2 very different games but 2 good results to start our season. After a 5-0 win at home with 5 different players scoring on Thursday, we had to go to overtime to defeat E. Mennonite 1-0 on Friday. After dominating the 2nd half, it took a terrific pass in the first overtime from Adria Graham to set Dorie Gedridge free down the right flank to finish a nice breakaway goal. After the Holiday break, we'll play 3 games at home in 4 days starting Wednesday at 7pm.

Preseason Growth

We concluded our preseason on Saturday with a good 1-0 result at Division II Alderson-Broaddus on Saturday. They were a physically tough and athletic team that really pushed us to keep possession and increase our speed of play. We've shown terrific growth in a short time in the preseason and are ready for our home-opener on Thursday night.

Although we've been unaffected by Hurricane Irene here in Western Maryland, we know many friends and family who have been and our thoughts and prayers are with them throughout the storm and recovery - particularly those at CAC member schools directly in the path of the storm.

The team visited the Deep Creek Lake area and Swallow Falls on Friday for our annual preseason team retreat. We swam at the Falls, did some teambuilding, visited the Whitewater Course at Wisp, and ate some locally famous Brenda's Pizza!

FSU Alumni returned to Frostburg this weekend and gave the current version of the women's soccer team quite a test on Saturday night in Bobcat Stadium. Lauren Lentine scored a birthday goal for the "Senior" team to tie the game at 1-1 but the 2011 squad scored several times late including goals from Dorie Gedridge, Adria Graham, and 2 from Cassie Donahue. THANK YOU to the terrific alumni players that came up to play in the game and enjoy a night in Frostburg. It was the best attended and best quality alumni game we've had at FSU!

Did you have a "Good" year at FSU?

When I'm asked this question, I often say, 'wait til grades come out' before I know for sure. Well by every measure, we've had a great year at FSU! Our team just improved on a best-ever GPA from the Fall by earning a team average 3.59 this Spring semester. 7 players earned a perfect 4.0 in the Spring while 14 of our 20 active players earned a 3.5 or better! 19 players now have a cumulative GPA above 3.0. We will easily earn the NSCAA Team Academic Award for the 4th year in a row but more importantly - FSU women's soccer players are better prepared for the job market or graduate school than ever before. The athletic and academic achievements of these players continues to be truly amazing as we set the bar higher and higher here at Frostburg State.

The FSU Women's Soccer team raised nearly $1200 for the American Cancer Society as part of this year's annual Relay for Life Fundraising event in the FSU Stadium. The team "relayed" on Friday night, played lots of soccer on the stadium field, and helped FSU raise over $50,000 for ACS this year. The team once again, raised more money than any other FSU sports team and was among the 12 best fundraising groups campus wide.

On Friday at 6pm, the annual Relay for Life Cancer Fundraiser will be held in the FSU Stadium. Its a meaningful and unifying fundraising event that nearly every organization on campus participates in in some way. So far, FSU Women's Soccer has raised over $1,000 for this effort. Spring Season Underway....

We finished our Spring Break and have begun practice sessions for the Spring season this week. We'll host a play-day on Saturday April 16th here at FSU the day after the Relay for Life fundraiser in our stadium on Friday night. We anticipate starting at 3pm vs Alderson-Broaddus and will also play Pitt-Johnstown as well later that evening.

Memories of Costa Rica

An important part of our team trip to Costa Rica was our visit to a Children's Center in the Capital of San Jose. We presented some books and gifts to the children and then spent time with the preschoolers in the school courtyard. It was a moving experience for many of our players and parents.

We began our 3-day stay at Flamingo Beach on the Pacific Coast of Costa Rica today. 80 degrees and simply beautiful. This resort is fantastic! The rooms, food, and location are all outstanding. A great game at the Tilajari Resort field saw FSU score 5 times on the way to a convincing victory on tour in Costa Rica. Adria Graham put in a 1st-half goal before Amanda Wharton scored a hat-trick with 3 in a row over a 10 minute span in the 2nd half. Erin Ford headed home a Liz Seligman corner to finish the scoring. The San Carlos players, coaches, and parents were all wonderful hosts sharing gifts and local fruit after the game. Perhaps the zip-line tour in the shadow of an active Volcano and visit to the Baldi Hot Springs resort provided the Frostburg players some inspiration!

The Capital City of San Jose

Fun on a night out for dinner in San Jose, Costa Rica

We've had a terrific start to our trip to Central America. The Arenal team gave us quite a lesson in Costa Rican soccer in our first game of the tour. Their speed of play and skill forced us to really chase the game before finally getting into some rhythm ourselves as the game progressed. We were much more prepared for our 2nd game against UCEM and had the ball much more and created great chances throughout the game. Taylor Jenkins headed home a great goal while Kierstin Stevenson hit the post and Amanda Wharton forced the UCEM keeper to make several terrific saves. We head to the San Carlos region of Costa Rica tomorrow near the active Arenal volcano!

After our workout in Frederick on the way to National Airport, we had a change in our travel plans and spent the evening in Charlotte before continuing on to San Jose today. The flights were great and on-time as we touched down to 75 degree temperatures! Our hotel in the Capital is a 4-Star Barcelo property and it is fantastic. We worked out at a nearby field before having a great dinner and were then treated to a fun presentation of traditional Costa Rican dance. Our first game is tomorrow after a good nights sleep...

Academic Excellence

The 2010 season was memorable and remarkable in many ways but nothing is more important than the academic achievements of our student-athletes. The team earned its highest ever semester GPA with a 3.474 average for the Fall term. 5 players earned perfect 4.0's while 15 earned a 3.5 or better. Fully 21 of our 24 rostered players earned a 3.0 or better in the Fall. 3 of our Seniors, Lauren Russell, Kierstin Stevenson, and Shonna Ferree were named to NSCAA Scholar All-Region teams - the first time 3 of our players have received this honor in the same year. The commitment, athleticism, and intelligence that these players have displayed this year and throughout their academic careers has been truly impressive.

Why we play

We choose to play in the ECAC tournament for lots of reasons - it's a competitive, week long tournament that enables us to play home games against teams we usually don't see in the regular season. In 2 of the past 3 years, we have played in 6 ECAC post-season games here in our home stadium and have not allowed a goal. Unfortunately, we have not had much success in penalty kick shootouts. The 2 photos below help show why these post-season games have meaning. 1 from Saturday night shows what a beautiful place FSU can be to play soccer and the 2nd photo shows 2 of our injured Seniors appearing in the starting lineup one last time in Bobcat Stadium. The Fine Line...

As any fan or former player knows, soccer is a cruel game sometimes. The results of games are often determined by individual split-second moments that can occur at any time in the course of a game that can last as long as 110 minutes at the college level. That moment in the CAC conference final did not go our way on Saturday. In spite of playing well enough to win, leading in every statistical category, and actually putting a goal in at one point, we did not prevail.
Full credit goes to our opponents for having the mental toughness to hang in there and give themselves the opportunity to make that moment go their way in the 2nd overtime. We wish them well as they represent the CAC in the upcoming NCAA Tournament.

There may not have been a better scoreline for us this year than this one. With so much at stake, our players really played a tough but smart game at Salisbury and got the result we needed. This Saturday, before our game at Noon, we celebrated the careers of 5 very special players. Our 5 Seniors have been fantastic athletes, students, leaders, and ambassadors of FSU during their time here at Frostburg State. All of them have played important roles in the growth of our program and been high-impact players in our lineup over the course of their careers. In a wonderful team effort, we defeated St. Mary's 5-0 on Senior Day but our Seniors stole the show. Lauren Russell scored 3 with 2 assists from Kierstin Stevenson and Shonna Ferree, Taylor Jenkins, and Heather Fleishell did the defensive work to earn the shut out.

We'll finish the regular season by playing both of the conference teams currently in a 3-way tie with us for the CAC regular season title and renew our traditional rivalry with Salisbury. A classic argument in the sport of soccer and a great example was witnessed on Saturday in our game with York. It was clear that our opponent's primary advantage in the game was physical energy and force and that was enough to out score us on our home field. It's disappointing that we would allow 2 goals at home with a great crowd on such a beautiful day for soccer. This result will make achieving our team goals this year much more difficult but I'm sure our players will accept that challenge and respond in the coming weeks...

Our players get recognized in a number of ways throughout the season. Amanda Wharton was just named "Player of the Week" for the 2nd time this season by both our conference, the CAC, and the ECAC, a much larger regional conference with 183 Division III members across 16 Eastern States. The National Soccer Coaches Association also ranks teams on a weekly basis throughout the season and FSU is currently #7 in the South Atlantic region. Team statistics are kept on the FSU, CAC, and NCAA websites and Frostburg is currently ranked nationally in a number of categories.

Since 2006 when our turf stadium became the home of FSU Women's Soccer, our home record has been outstanding. Our players love playing in front of friends and family, playing night games, and on our state-of-the-art Sprinturf playing surface. More importantly, there's a confidence and level of pride that comes with defending our home turf on our own campus that helps fuel our intensity and energy level when we play at home. Of course we get to play, on average, about half our games at home and look forward to the opportunity to earn the right to play post-season games here at FSU again this year.

The team visits Colonial Williamsburg

2 good athletic teams challenged us in different ways this past weekend in the Christopher Newport Tournament. On Saturday, we scored first against a very athletic Va. Wesleyan team but could not hold on in the 2nd half. On Sunday, we had a poor start and after some defensive lapses, were forced to keep our composure and really push the game to come from behind against the hosts from CNU. The team showed great spirit in a tough weekend in which we split games against two NCAA tournament teams from last year. We had a great trip and visit to Coastal Virginia but our upcoming stretch of home games is very welcomed.

Even though we've changed conferences, we certainly understand how critical it is to get results in conference games. The conference standings make a huge difference in November when playing conference tournament games at home can be a major advantage. Due to a quirk in the CAC schedule this year, we had an odd early conference game and Amanda Wharton's hat trick at Hood was the difference. We controlled much of the flow of the game on Hood's new turf field and another shutout for our team gives us confidence heading into a very tough weekend tournament.

Catholic was physical and pressured us for long stretches but could not get the goal they needed to change the game. With about 10 minutes to go, Heather Fleishell banged home a Liz Seligman corner and FSU hung on for a big early season win, 1-0. The Soccerplex stadium field was in perfect condition on a beautiful day for soccer in Maryland.

A strong start to the game and for our season at home this week. We created good chances to score throughout the game but finally put one in at the 73 minute mark. Amanda Wharton scored on a terrific assist from Adria Graham and Taylor Jenkins scored late for her first goal here at FSU.

Preseason Lessons...

There are lessons to be learned from every match we play. One of tonight's lessons was pretty clear - we did not have a good start and we're not really prepared to play the physical and athletic team that Alderson Broaddus was tonight. They were able to disrupt our rhythm and force us into mistakes in the back and took a 1 goal lead as a result. We increased the pace of our game and had a much better 2nd half as we created a few good chances but could only get one goal back on a terrific Heather Fleishell header. Being prepared to play hard, especially at home, is a habit we must have as a team this year if we want to accomplish our goals.

Over 3 30-minute periods at Dickinson College today, the Red Devils had lots of possession but could not score against a tough Frostburg defense in a preseason scrimmage in Carlisle, PA. Amanda Wharton scored in the 2nd period after Adria Graham forced a turnover and put her into great space. Wharton beat the keeper neatly and pushed the ball into an open net. Lauren Russell also scored on a terrific individual effort as she corralled her own shot off the keeper and put the rebound in from a narrow angle. Everyone on the roster put in a good shift today as we tried different combinations and continue to experiment with some new formations. Our final scrimmage of the preseason will be on Saturday at home at 7pm...

It Is All About the Numbers!

Congratulations!
The FSU Women's Soccer Team will qualify for the NSCAA Team Academic Award again this year after earning a 3.24 team average GPA in the Spring and 3.3 for the year. 5 players earned perfect 4.0s this past Spring while 7 more earned a 3.50 or better. Fully 21 rostered players earned a 3.0 or better in the Spring semester with no players in any academic jeopardy at all. The quality and commitment of our student-athletes is reflected in these numbers and will enable many of our players to compete successfully in a tough job market or further their education beyond FSU. 6 of our 8 graduating Seniors over the past 2 years are currently enrolled in or about to begin graduate school full time and one has already completed an accelerated MBA...Congratulations!

Relay for Life

The FSU women's soccer team raised nearly $1200 for the American Cancer Society at the annual Relay for Life event held in Bobcat Stadium last Friday night. The team raised more than any other sports team at FSU this year and helped the entire campus community raise a total of over $40,000 for ACS. Members of our team are seen below with the FSU men's soccer team and then at the Luminary ceremony held at dusk.

Sophomore Goalkeeper Michelle Buckmaster, also a sister of Delta Zeta, was named FSU's Greek Goddess for 2010 as part of Greek Week on the FSU campus this Spring. In the talent portion of the competition, Michelle sang a mix of Taylor Swift and the classic by Vanilla Ice, "Ice Ice Baby". She was sporting her crown Friday at the Relay for Life cancer fundraiser in our stadium.

We played 2 games on Saturday at Shippensburg by drawing Kutztown 0-0 and losing 1-0 to Shippensburg, both teams from the D2 PSAC conference. Overall, we did very well and although we didn't score, we did create a good number of chances against both teams and defended well in a new system for our team.
This week is Earth Week with a variety of events on our campus culminating with a meaningful fundraiser for cancer research called Relay for Life. Our team is one of many that participates in this event in our stadium at FSU on Friday night. We'll play an intersquad scrimmage at 1:30 and then Relay for Life events will begin at 6pm. FSU is a regional resource in Western Maryland for academic discourse but also the arts, drama, music, entertainment, and of course, athletics. As a result, you never know what you might see on our campus any given weekend. A couple weeks ago it was the Harlem Globetrotters and each spring the Shrine Circus visits our Main Arena. Saturday, a few friends of the circus enjoyed lounging in the sun in front of our administration building.

As everyone knows, it's snowed quite a bit in the Mid-Atlantic this season! At Frostburg, students get to take advantage of the winter at places like the Wisp Resort, about 30 miles from our campus. Setting the bar higher and higher

Our team won a championship and broke lots of records this year on the field - wins in a season, goals scored, best won-loss record, for example...but the most impressive thing our players did this year, they did off the field. The FSU women's soccer team just earned it's best-ever semester team GPA with a 3.36 average. 5 players earned perfect 4.0s, and 4 more were right there with 3.8's, or only one B. Overall, 20 players earned better than a 3.0...truly an awesome performance in the classroom.

I continue to be amazed and impressed at the quality and commitment of our players here at Frostburg...

Lauren Russell was named AMCC Player of the Year and Amanda Wharton was named AMCC Newcomer of the Year to sweep the 2009 conference player awards in our last year in the AMCC. Lauren scored 27 goals and Amanda added 24 in a record-breaking effort that ranked them both in the top 20 in Division III scoring across the nation in 2009. It's always difficult and emotional when the season ends. You don't really realize it fully until Monday comes and there's not going to be a practice for the first Monday since August. When we look back and remember our final game of the year in the NCAA Tournament, I think we'll recognize there wasn't really that much difference between Frostburg State and a top-10 team in the country. Perhaps we can't say we went "toe to toe" with Otterbein but we absolutely had our chances to tie the game late and we felt more comfortable playing this level an opponent than we ever have in the 5 NCAA Tournaments we've played in here in my 8 years. We did have a wonderful season and have terrific players here who are highly committed to the sport of soccer and to each other. They've made their coaches, their families, and their University very proud...

In dramatic fashion, Lauren Russell slammed home a terrific shot from 20 yards in overtime to end a tense championship game and help us claim our 6th AMCC Conference Title on Saturday. Our Seniors have had a wild ride in the AMCC Tournament in recent years and they've earned the right to be called "Champions" in our last season in the AMCC. We'll find out Monday where and when we'll play in the NCAA Tournament.

A bit of a slow start tonight but our pressure on Hilbert eventually paid off as we scored twice in each half for a comfortable home win to start our conference tournament. Our forwards Lauren Russell and Amanda Wharton traded first-half goals before Russell assisted Wharton for a 2nd after halftime. Christine Fitzgerald then crossed a dangerous ball into the goal box that resulted in a well-deserved tally for Olivia Winant. Our team also earned its 5th consecutive shutout giving us 14 on the year. We'll host the AMCC Semifinal on Wednesday...

-If she could, would like to have met John Lennon and Robert Kennedy. I feel as though the two of them had such a great impact on society then and now.
-Favorite Soccer Moment - It’s hard to narrow down but watching a girl sub herself into a game, to staying in the classiest hotel in Niagara Falls, to all the bus rides and stories shared, to all the championship games we’ve experienced; but if I had to pick one big event it would have to be our trip to Costa Rica.
-Most Rewarding thing about playing college soccer –probably the day my roommate and I received a personal letter from the President of our University telling us what an honor it was to have players like us representing the school. It was this letter that made me realize how respected we are as college athletes and students.
-Advice for future players at FSU - the best piece of advice I could give is to enjoy your time in college, live it up, and have fun. Never look back and have no regrets!

-Favorite Soccer Moment - all the overnight trips & bus rides with the girls, they always brought everyone closer and were always a good time.
-Most rewarding thing about playing college soccer - staying in shape all throughout college.
-Advice for future players at FSU - One piece of advice I would give to the incoming girls would be to keep going even when you just want to sit down and quit, you never know when it will be your chance to shine. Always work as hard as you can and don't ever walk away saying you could have worked a little harder. Leave everything you have on the field.

Grinding out a home win

Sometimes the goal just seems like it has a shield over it that is keeping balls we shoot from going in! Tonight was a bit frustrating as we took 25 shots but only put 1 in the net but 1 was enough. Cassie Donohue was our hero as we finally banged in a 2nd ball on a set play. Being able to grind out home wins with the stress that comes with a 1 goal game is a still a very good sign. We look forward to celebrating our Senior Day this weekend!

Last Buffalo trip.....

Depending on our seed in the AMCC Tournament, we've hopefully made our last trip to the Buffalo/Niagara region for the year. Interesting, that for the first time in 3 years traveling to the schools at the top of our conference, the weather was actually better in Buffalo! We had a nice cool evening visit to Niagara Falls late on Friday and our game Saturday was cold and cloudy but the field was in good shape and firm enough to put passes together. For the 9th game this year, we had both of our forwards score at least one goal each. Our team was ready to play, kept possession well, and executed in the final third throughout the game. An important conference match coming up on Wednesday at home...

Think Pink!

Members of the team wore pink for Tuesday night's game in honor of Breast Cancer Awareness month. Several players are involved in fundraising efforts for philanthropies as part of FSU's Homecoming week here on campus. The entire team will participate in April's Relay for Life event in the FSU stadium to raise money for cancer research.
In the game, 3 players scored twice in route to an 8-0 home win, our 7th in a row.

On soccer-parents night in our stadium, the players put on a show for their families scoring 3 times in the first 10 minutes on the way to another home shut-out and our 6th win in a row. Thank you to all the parents and family members who were able to make it today! The weather was cool but clear and it turned out be be a beautiful night for soccer! It was nice to see some of our alumni here as well. A challenging week for us coming up as we'll play 3 times in 5 days including another trip to the Buffalo/Niagara region...

A business-like approach

Every game we play is unique and different and presents a special challenge. We'll play at home and many hours away, in the rain, wind, and hot sun, and on surfaces from nice new turf to worn out grass and of course we'll experience different levels of play and athleticism and deal with our own fatigue and injury. Regardless of these various conditions, quality teams find a way to still play with the same energy, quality, and intensity in each and every contest and this is what we hope to learn throughout the season. Each game is just to valuable to waste and the most respectful thing we can do to an opponent is to take them seriously, come prepared, and play our best. Of course, regardless of the outcome, we always aspire to compete with class and with respect for our opponents.

Our 5-hour trips to the teams in the top end of our conference in Buffalo are sometimes very difficult but they are also some of the most memorable for our players. Niagara Falls was beautiful on Saturday morning and fortunately, Lauren Russell took care of the business part of our trip scoring 4 goals and assisting a 5th in our game against Medialle.
